BREAK DANCE

B-boying or breaking, commonly referred to as breakdancing, is a style of dance that evolved as part of hip-hop culture among Black and Latino youths in New York City. It is danced to both hip-hop and other genres of music that are often remixed to prolong the musical breaks. One who practices this style of dance is called a b-boy, b-girl, or breaker. Although "breakdance" is a common term, "b-boying" and "breaking" are preferred by the majority of the art form’s pioneers and most notable practitioners.

Breakdancing includes a number of moves and steps, including Toprock (any string of steps performed from a standing position, which may includepopping or locking);Downrock (also known as "footwork" or "floorwork"); Power Moves (actions that require momentum and physical power to execute, such as the windmill or head spin); and Freezes (stylish poses). It has been stated that breaking replaced fighting between street gangs. On the contrary, some believe it a misconception that b-boying ever played a part in mediating gang rivalry. Battles are dance competitions between two individuals or two groups of dancers. The musical selection for breaking is not restricted to hip-hop music, as long as the tempo and beat pattern.

TECKTONIK

Tecktonik (TCK), also called Milky Way or simply Electro Dance, is a frenetic and quirky French street dance which is typically performed to Electro House music. It is based on a blend of techno, rave and hip-hop styles – (late '80s vogue, '90s waving and b-boying, and '70s disco). The dance style emphasizes arm movements and focuses less on leg movements.

It started in the 2000s and originated from the southern suburbs of Paris, France, mainly from the Metropolis nightclubs and has grown around the world. Fast paced techno and electro house music imported from Northern Europe is the usual choice for Tecktonik dancing.

The term Tecktonik is a registered trademark, and this has created issues for dance events or other uses of the name. The creators of the Tecktonik brand (most notably, Cyril Blanc, the artistic director of Metropolis) sell official products, such as clothes, Matts CDs, and energy drinks. Tecktonik was featured prominently at the 2007 Paris Techno Parade on September 15. The song "Alive" by Mondotek has been named the official song for TCK in France.

HIP HOP

Hip hop is a cultural movement incorporating breakdancing (B-boying), music, graffiti writing, DJing and MCing. It originated in theAfrican American communities of New York City (with the South Bronx as the center) in the late 1970s. It was DJ Afrika Bambaataa that outlined the five pillars of hip-hop culture: MCing, DJing, breaking, graffiti writing, and knowledge. Other elements include beatboxing, hip hop fashion, and slang. Since first emerging in the Bronx, the lifestyle of hip hop culture has spread around the world. When hip hop music began to emerge, it was based around disc jockeys who created rhythmic beats by looping breaks (small portions of songs emphasizing a percussive pattern) on two turntables, which is now more commonly referred to as sampling. This was later accompanied by "rapping" (a rhythmic style of chanting or poetry more formally in 16 bar measures or time frames) and beatboxing, a vocal technique mainly used to imitate percussive elements of the music and various technical effects of hip hop DJs. An original form of dancing and particular styles of dress arose among followers of this new music. These elements experienced considerable refinement and development over the course of the history of the culture.

The relationship between graffiti and hip hop culture arises from the appearance of new and increasingly elaborate and pervasive forms of the practice in areas where other elements of hip hop were evolving as art forms, with a heavy overlap between those who wrote graffiti and those who practiced other elements of the culture.
